Let's Talk | Decluttering.

If you follow me on Instagram then you may have noted that I recently purchased 'The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying' by Marie Kondo. By nature I'm quite an untidy person and I've also been noticing recently that I have a shit tonne of clutter that I really don't need. Hence the book purchase, in the hope that it would inspire and teach me to be a tidier, more organised being.

My General Life - Let's Talk Decluttering

I've still not finished reading the book yet, but just starting reading it inspired me to go on a ruthless rampage and get rid of about 6 bags full of rubbish/stuff I don't need. Not exactly how Marie Kondo encourages you to declutter your home and life, but I just felt the need to get rid of things. and I'll tell you what, it felt so good.

It's like something flicked a switch and I just cut ties with so many things I didn't need. I was able to look at the things I own and say I do not need this / I do no want this / I do not like this and just let go. This rampage went on over a whole weekend and nothing was really safe! But after I'd finished I feel like I'm now left with more things that I actually want and use rather than just having a load of unnecessary belongings. It's also allowed me to use the storage I do have (which isn't huge amounts) more effectively and it's no longer bursting at the seams.

I'm sure as I continue reading about the KonMari method I'll do some more decluttering, I really want to tackle all the "random crap" drawers in the house because I know there's all sorts of stuff in there that probably shouldn't be there. Out of sight, out of mind and all that jazz. Keep your beady eyes peeled for a book review once I am finished and I'm sure there'll be more posts on my decluttering journey in the future.

How do you all go about decluttering? Have you read or been inspired by The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying? Leave me your thoughts in the comments below, or drop me a tweet @mygenerallife.

  1. I declutter every few months or so. I work on my wardrobe as well as the childrens. I cannot abide by clutter and like to give anything in good condition to charity.

It feels good clearing out items - out with the old and in with the new.

    1. I definitely agree, clearing out old belongings that you no longer need is so refreshing! I don't have kids but I imagine they accumulate lots of belongings! Thanks for stopping by Phoenicia :] x

  2. I'm currently in major decluttering mode. I must have got rid of at least bin bags full just in my room. I have idea how that much stuff fit in. It feels easier when there's less clutter. Now I have moved stuff round I was finally able to work out on the bedroom floor without knocking into everything. It's interesting how many things I have kept over the years that have very little value to me.
