The Great Blogger Bake Off and A Cheeky Recipe/Surprise!!

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you may have noticed me getting far too excited a couple of Sundays back at the prospect of going to my very first blogger event! The event was run in collaboration with Joe Blogs Blogger Network, Currys PC World, Kenwood and The Wilmslow Kitchen Cookery School and I must say, it was a corker of an afternoon. So today I'm going to share with you some thoughts and photos from the day. Also....keep reading until the very end as I have a My General Life first that I'm very excited to share with you all!!

The event was held at the Wilmslow Kitchen Cookery School which had such a GBBO feel about it with all it's gorgeous bunting, solid wood work benches, twinkly lights and the dreamy Kenwood KMix mixers (that are now gracing the work benches of the GBBO kitchen - such a scandal according to the Daily Mail).

After a little chat about Kenwood and the KMix, we got down to business. It started with the lovely Sarah demonstrating the bakes we were going to be creating; that being gorgeous, stripy meringues, a decadent chocolate tart and a light and fluffy swiss roll. We were paired up and let loose with a KMix...I have to say, they're bloody lovely and I just adore that they come in so many gorgeous colours! Here's a few photos of them all up close and personal...

I love the idea of the Flexi Beater (the dark grey one) for getting all the mixture from the bottom of the bowl

I was paired with the lovely Emma from Sarcasm and Style and we had a great time getting our bake on. We also had some really helpful chefs on hand to give us tips at our stations and make sure we weren't eating too much of the mixture (the chocolate pastry mix was far too tempting!) It was great getting the opportunity to chat to other bloggers and I was super chuffed that I FINALLY got to meet the lovely Pamela from SpamellaB, I just love all her healthy, protein packed recipes so it was great to get the chance to say hello in person - she's such a doll!

I'm sure you're all keen to see what delights we cooked up, so here's a little photo overload for you, then I'll get onto my little cheeky recipe/surprise...

We were spoilt with our very own KMix Hand Blender and the cutest KMix keyring!! Photo of Pamela and I cheekily pinched from her Instagram
If you would like the recipes for everything we baked on the day, why not head on over to the Tech Talk Blog, where Currys PC World have shared the recipes along with more snaps from the day.

So now....onto my cheeky recipe/surprise!!!

In honour of Joe Blogs Blogger Network, Currys PC World, The Wilmslow Kitchen Cookery School and Kenwood all going to so much effort to put on such a brilliant afternoon, I decided that as a thank you I would put together my version of a dairy-free, vegan friendly chocolate tart. This has been my project over the last week or so and I'm so excited for you all to see my little stop-motion video that I put together!! (although apologies Kenwood, my blender is not one of yours!)

Dairy Free/Vegan Chocolate Tart:

Base:
150g Rice Flour
7 Medjool Dates (de-seeded)
15g Cocoa Powder
1 heaped tbsp Coconut Oil

Filling:
2 cartons Silken Tofu
200g melted Dark Chocolate
Drizzle of Golden Syrup (to taste)
2-3 tbsp Oatly (dairy free cream)

1. Blitz the base ingredients until it resembles a sticky powder.
2. Place into a non-stick tin and pop in the fridge for 30 minutes.
3. Blitz the filling ingredients - feel free to add anything else you fancy
4. Add the filling to the base and pop back into the fridge to chill for at least 30 minutes
5. Eat and ENJOY!!

There was also some filling left from this amount which is just as delicious eaten on its own or added to porridge etc.

I'd love to know your thoughts on the video and if this is something you might like to see more of on My General Life. I had great fun experimenting (particularly with the dates) and I personally think it's just something a little bit different. Why not leave your thoughts either in the comments below, or drop me a tweet @mygenerallife.
