5 Tips for Keeping Active.

My health and fitness routine has definitely evolved a lot over recent years. I've gone through periods where I've trained very little and other times when I've been in the gym 3-4 times per week. More recently I've decided to branch out a little a try different activities in order to help  improve my overall health and well-being. So today, I thought I'd share 5 tips for keeping active in everyday life.

1. Find things that you enjoy.
I think this is a bit of a given, but if you really enjoy something, you're going to be far more inclined to participate in it. I've discovered lots of new exercise related activities that I really love recently and so it doesn't even feel like I'm working out.. Plus I really look forward to going, so there's no question about me skipping a workout. So not only am I helping my body physically, but it's contributing to my mental well-being also - double whammy!

2. Make time in your work day to leave your desk.
I've recently moved from a really active job, to a job where I can spend a large proportion of my day sat at my desk. This makes for a restless and distractable Jordan. So, I try my best to make time in my work day to get up and have a little wander, even if it's only to the loo or to make a cup of tea. I find that gives my mind a break, satisfies my bodies need to move about and helps me to refocus when I sit back down.

3. Get outdoors.
I'll tell you what, having a dog really helps with this as it forces me to get out the house, even when it's pouring with rain. But you don't have to have a dog to get out for a quick walk around the block. Why not get on Google and find a local trail or walk and just give it a go, it doesn't have to be a long one, it just has to get you moving. There's something really satisfying about getting out in the fresh air and enjoying the world around you. I also love practising yoga in the sunshine, there's something so peaceful and relaxing about it - you should give it a go!

4. Two's company.
Why not try to find something that you and your partner/best friend/sister/brother/next door neighbour can get out and do together. Not only will you then have some wonderful, quality social time, but it becomes interactive, you can have a laugh and enjoy being active together. Recently my boyfriend and I went climbing together and loved it. We're hoping to train up so we can belay each other and then we can go and climb together.

5. Get rid of the pressure.
Try not to put so much pressure on yourself to do. If you ask me that's not a frame of mind that will encourage you to get out there. If you're feeling knackered or a bit under the weather and feel like a rest, then rest. Being active is a lifestyle and lifestyle is about balance. Just go with the flow and do what you feel you can. The more being active becomes an enjoyable habit the more you will want to do it.
