Hooping Around.

If you follow me on any of my social media outlets, then you may have noticed that I've recently taken up aerial hoop (I haven't stopped wittering on about it/positing videos and photos). So , having now had 3 lessons, I decided it's high time to tell you what I think so far.

I've wanted to try aerial hoop for a long while, so when I saw that Cloud Factory (part of Cloud Aerial Arts) had started doing aerial hoop classes in Warrington, I knew I had to take the plunge and give it a go.

Having seen how graceful aerial hoop can look, I did have a fleeting thought of how hard can it really be? That thought really was fleeting and I quickly learnt that it's bloody hard work! However, it's a good, satisfying hard work. I think having a baseline level of strength and flexibility has been most helpful as it means I can get myself into positions such as the splits (almost) and I'm able to move myself around the hoop, for example going from hanging up to sitting.

I think my teacher, Erin, is fab (hi Erin if you're reading this!) and she works so well with different ability levels within the class, making sure she challenges people, but within their own individual limits. The classes are also quite small, which means you get more 1:1 help and more hoop time, which is something I really appreciate.

One thing I really didn't anticipate with hoop is the bruising. Be forewarned, it hurts and leaves some almighty marks! Although the pain does reduce as your skin gets used to pressure in places such the back of your knees. My feet are yet to experience this desensitisation haha.

I'm so glad I took the leap and tried out aerial hoop and I'm so looking forward to learning more and possibly even trying out different aerial skills (I'm dying to try silks!) I highly recommend giving aerial hoop a go if there's a class near you, it's something different and fun and you really don't feel like you're working out. You never know, you might just find yourself a new little hobby!

If you live in the Warrington area and would like to try Cloud Factory, you can head over to their Facebook page >>here<<. You can also book onto sessions via their website >>here<< - they do pole classes too!

Have you ever tried aeriel hoop or any other aerial skills? What did you think? I'd love for you to share your thoughts either in the comments below, or you could drop me a tweet @mygenerallife.

  1. I've seen your instagram pics of this and I have been intrigued! Warrington is about 30-40 mins away so it might be something I try one weekend. Look forward to seeing more of it on your blog xx

  2. I used to do pole dancing (for fitness not dancing) so I can empathise with you on the bruising, especially on your feet, ouch! Looks amazing though, I'd definitely love to give this a go!
