Self Acceptance, Happiness and Being YOU!

So as I'm sure you're all aware, on Sunday it was International Women's Day (8th March). All the empowering tweets and Instagram posts sparked a little bit of reflection time, which in turn has led to me sitting down to write this post. Over the last few years I feel that I've been on a fairly significant journey of personal acceptance. I feel like I've gone from an awkward young girl who tried to be something she isn't to fit in, to a strong, independent woman who is becoming more and more content to just be me.

I've become more accepting of my quirks and flaws and I feel like I embrace them more than I ever have. These quirks and flaws make me who I am, I wouldn't be me without them. And whilst there's always room for personal development and growth, I'm much more content with the journey I'm on. I've started to care less about what others think of me, not in a negative 'I don't care' sense, but in a more self-confident sense. I'm always going to care about others, probably too much, but that's what makes me good at what I do (I think so anyway). I feel like I've become much more positive over recent years, so aspects of my character that I previously would have seen as negative, such as caring too much about what others think/do, I now try to see in a more positive light and I focus on how they positively affect my life.

We've all been through times where we doubt ourselves, our abilities and our choices. That's natural, we're all human after all! I just think sometimes we need to give ourselves a break and embrace who we are and what a positive impact we have as individuals. Honestly, since I've started accepting myself I am SO MUCH HAPPIER! I'm more positive and I don't feel as dragged down when something negative happens.

Another one found on Pinterest. I really love this.
I appreciate that this post it probably a bit of a ramble, but I just needed to get my thoughts down in that hope that it might just help someone who is in a bit of a funk and needs a pick-me-up. I think it's so important, especially for us ladies, but for men too, to empower each other and pick each other up. We're all in this life together so why not support each other to make it a happy one. And most importantly, don't forget to be proud to be you, you wonderful, unique soul!

Please feel free to share any thoughts you have on personal acceptance, positive/negative attitudes and general happiness below, or why not tweet me @mygenerallife?
