Gym Bag Beauty.

Feeling nosey? Great, because today I'm opening up my gym bag to share the beauty and skincare items that are squirrelled away in there. I train 3-4 times a week, in all honesty I probably shower at the gym more than I do at home (plus the waters free, winner!), hence why this is a little more than just some shampoo and shower gel.

How I Track My Training.

A few weeks ago I was having discussions on Twitter about training diaries. The Daily Greatness Training Journal and Lorna Jane MNB Diary seemed to be two popular choices, the thing is, as lovely and pretty and inspiring as they are I just couldn't justify the price tags. Spending £30 on a training journal just seemed a little excessive to me, although I'm sure that these journals are more than JUST training journals, but I was looking for something a little on a the cheaper side of life.

So, I started scouring the web and various shops whilst out and about, looking for something that I could create a training diary from. Low and behold, whilst doing my weekly shop in good ol' Tesco, I came across this cutie in the stationary aisle.

Inspiring Wall Art #2.

Ever since my first 'Inspiring Wall Art' post, I've been on the looked out for more inspirational pieces that I could hang around my home in order to inspire and motivate me on a day-to-day basis. I feel like I've neglected the addition of wall art in my home up to now (aside from the 3D Star Wars picture we have in our hallway!!) but this year I'd like that  to change.

I love snacks, I really do. I'm quite the grazer and can't get through the day without having snacks on hand to keep me going. I'm all about easy snacks that I can just grab on my way out the door that require very little preparation or effort.  Most of these are fairly low (ish) calorie, although I do tend to make my snacks a bit more substantial in order to keep me going - especially on days when I'm at work.

I just love chomping away on a good ol' carrot - bugs bunny style! I always find I get seriously funny looks though, anyone else experience that too? I will usually just grab a carrot out of the fridge before I leave, give it a wash and eat it whole, skin and all - gimme all the nutrients!

I've really developed a serious love of popcorn in recent months. I have always been adamant that I don't like salty popcorn, but give me sweet & salty and I'm there. I love both Propercorn and Metcalfe's Skinny popcorn and I'm even branching out into different flavours (adventurous, I know!) It feels like a much more substantial snack than eating a packet of crisps and I still get that 'sweet' hit from it without eating a chocolate bar.

Snack bars are super handy for throwing in my handbag when I'm out and about, or nibbling on before the gym. Brands that I particularly love are 9bar, Trek and Frank. They're all super yummy and so very convenient.

We all know that rice cakes alone are pretty much like eating cardboard, not very exciting. But they're very easily jazzed up with a bit of peanut butter for a great afternoon pick me up. If I'm feeling particularly fancy, I like to pick up the Kallo dark chocolate rice cakes which are seriously yummy - I love adding peanut butter to these too for a super tasty snack.

Now I will admit, I certainly don't eat as much fruit as I should (bad JB!), but I do like to grab some of natures sweeties such as grapes and clementines for a vitamin packed snack. I love how Clementines make the whole room smell amazing when you eat them, citrus scents for the win!

What are your favourite, quick and easy snack options? Is there anything you enjoy that I must try out? Please share your thoughts either in the comments below or why not tweet me @mygenerallife?!

Tuesday, 20 January 2015

Today I thought I'd share with you the some 'strongspiration'. My goal in relation to my health, lifestyle and training is to be strong. Not just physically, but mentally too. I wanted to talk about a few people that continually inspire me to put hard work in at the gym, eat better and just generally take better care of myself.

I recently discovered Chelsea's Youtube channel and I'm really into her training videos/vlogs. She is training to compete in Powerlifting and produces really informative and enjoyable content documenting her training and also offering advice on training techniques and diet too. Watching her videos really makes me want to go to the gym and squat my booty off! You can follow Chelsea on twitter and instagram too!

The Training Diaries: DOMS for Days.

Hello there lovely people.

Well, another week has gone and I have managed to get through the first week of my programme relatively unscathed. Aside from the DOMS that is! Delayed onset muscle soreness is a massive cowbag. Call me a wimp, but that's just how I feel.

Review: Powerlift 2.0.

Hello there lovely people.

If you saw my 'What's On My Gym Bag' post, you may have noted these beauties just hanging out in there. These being the Adidas Powerlift 2.0. I actually bought these about a year and half ago as a little graduation present to myself, I'd been wanting some for quite a while so I just threw caution to the wind and thought 'why the heck not!'. I thought I'd give you a little run down of my thoughts, just in case any of you are in the market for some lifters.

My Five Tips for Making Diet Changes.

Hello there lovely people.

If you've seen my 2015 goals post, you may have noted that one of my goals was to take my health into my own hands and work on my diet. I started following a low FODMAP (ish) diet towards the end of of last year in order to help control my IBS symptoms, which I found really helpful, but I fell right off the wagon in December. However, having already done it once, I knew what worked for me in terms of implementing it again. So today, my little chums, I thought I'd share with you my five tips for implementing diet changes and setting yourself up for success rather than failure! (I sound like a really bad TV saleswoman haha). Also, just a little disclaimer here, I'm certainly not a nutritionist/dietician/food expert, these are just things that I found, in my experience, worked for me.

The Training Diaries: Back On The Wagon.

Hello there lovely people.

Today is the 1st of January, the day that myself (and probably most of the population) have decided to climb back on the wagon. After neglecting my diet and exercise routine for pretty much the entirety of December (I last trained on my birthday, which was the 1st), I did my first workout of 2015 today, one word, INSTADOMS!!
